Just encountered about the grumpiest GM parts counter guy in the city. Was looking for rear diff fluid for the 1970 and he was of no help whatsoever. I came away with two bottles of 75W90 synthetic gear oil and some posi additive. Is this what I need or should I be using something else?
A good Canadian AC Delco part # would be #89021672 for Axle Lubricant SAE 80W-90 for that application. I noticed the P/N's up here are not all the same as down south - don't know why.
Of course the limited slip additive would be required.
I picked it up at Wheatons on the south side.
Hope that helps.
LOL, actually I had to go back twice too in order to get the right one ! The second time I did my homework and gave him the P/N !
If it's the same guy I dealt with, he seems to be more interested in Harley's than Chevy's !
Nothing but troubles dealing with that place, both my friend and I, and we both bought new vehicles there. The parts and service departments are lacking to say the least, I won't get into the stories as it'll just sound like a bashing session. We'll just say I won't go back and leave it at that.
Nice to find a couple other classic corvette owners. It seems everybody and their dog owns a new one in this city! Lol
Yeah, I'd love to beat the hell out of one...... That being said, anyone with money can buy a new one and go fast, takes dedication to keep an old one going. It becomes a love affair instead of just a car. Not to mention, in a new one, you're judged as an *** in a corvette, in a classic you're a collector. Lol
I'd be careful of the posi additive, as you may not need it. It's job is to allow for some clutch plate slippage around turns, to help prevent noise. Sometimes adding it, allows to much slippage though, for normal straight line posi lock up action. You can always add it later if needed, as far easier than trying to get it back out.
It's funny how that works, the old vs new business. I was at the lights on Whyte and 109 recently beside a majorly cammed new Z06 that sounded like it was ready to take off to the moon...but most of the people crossing at the walk light were looking at my 42 year old grumpy Stringray rather than the Z.
Thanks 5.5...I went with one tube of posi because I was starting to get some noise in slow turns and it seems to have cleared it up for me for now. I don't step into the thing much down low anyway.
