stroking to 383 and keeping the Crossfire is a really big waste of time and money.it simply does not flow above 4000rpm ... the Renegade works well , have a friend that got the number 0007 made.. but you could be waiting 6 month to a year for one.

I am currently replacing the blue and red anodized fittings by brass material at my ´69 BB.
The previous owner thought it looks cool...but for me cool is when it looks like it was back then.

What do you think will a LSx look in a C3 in 10 oder 15 years?
How would a C4 engine look in a C2 today?
But anway...you can swap it back in 15 years

I've seen a C4 engine in a C2 - only good looking part of the car. The C4 TPI is in my opinion the best looking engine ever made, part of the reason why I plan to put one in my 79.

IMHO I think that they will look like dated restos as the C4 engines look in C3's these days. That being said I would love an LSx in my '72 and just not worry about how it looks, I do like the looks of the new Lt1 C7 engine as well. If someone gave me a new C4 engine I would have no problems putting that in my '72 either and just crate my numbers engine.

Well finally after 4 months the stroker is now in, as well the new DeWitts radiator. Man those SPAL fans are loud. Sounds good and runs nice. Just need some mileage on it so we can then fine tune it.

On another note, I need some expert advice. The battery gauge pegs out the second I touch the gas pedal. I have a kill switch across the battery. With it off I read 13.4 volts and with the car running at idle I read 16.4 volts. Any clues as to whats going on. Also I check the battery with a temp gauge. It was reading 180 degrees and smelled pretty bad.

Sounds like your voltage regulator is shot, or you don't have the voltage reference wire connected to the alternator.

That bad smell is your electrolyte boiling in your battery. Be careful, an overcharging battery produces hydrogen gas.

The day the LS1 install is as easy as installing a Gen 1 in place of my Gen 1, I will seriously consider it. But, that day won't come anytime soon.

Go for the 383 and enjoy!

Can you say BOOM!

I've seen two different batteries explode, not pretty.

Hello everyone, it's been a while. So I finally got the 383 in 500 break in miles on it and had it tuned. I'm curious though. This engine is suppose to have twice the HP of the original engine. There is a difference but not that much IMO. I did have the crossfire taken out a while back and it has a 650 Holley Carb now. So I guess the question is did I get snowed on the engine? Do I need a bigger Carb or go to EFI? The transmission is the original automatic with the car, could that be it? Or do I need a different gear ratio? Or some form of all the above?

Without reading the whole thread what are the particulars on the engine ie head cam intake exh etc etc.

Did you have the distributor curved?

Your stock engine is rated in Net horsepower, crate engines are rated in gross. So it more than likely is not double the horsepower, closer to 50% more

EFI won t get you more HP than a carb ...you say its double the HP, exactly what is in the new motor? cam specs, compression ratio, manifold, heads etc..... it could be that its built to produce power higher in RPM and the stock gear ratio is defeating that..

Just wondering what anyone else would do to hit that 400hp mark. Any other concerns as well would be appreciated.
I have a 1978 and went the ZZ383 route. It's a bit more $$ than the numbers you were quoting but from my point of view it is the way to go... Like you I had an old Holley 4150 which now sits on top of there. It's been fun to tinker with and tune.. and that motor really pulls. If you go this way, shoot me a note. There are some things I learned in the process which I will be happy to share.

So those are the specs on the engine. Still stock exhaust manifold. Don't remember what type intake manifold I have. Have no clue what a "distributor curve" is. Unfortunately my mechanic skills and knowledge are just enough to tinker and then screw things up.
