Gloss/shade cant count on factory perfect. It looks pretty nice is all I can say. I used their platinum on mine it wont fade chip no matter what.
Good stuff just follow directions. Ill never use rattle can again after having POR on engine blocks nothing will hold up as good although some may claim.
Tell them to take a powerwasher jet up close repeatedly and see what happens. Por wont budge
Hi otr,
I believe the shade question is a tough one since I'd think over the model year, and certainly model years, the paint coming to Flint and Tonawanda may have varied in exact color.
I think the POR engine paint, while very durable, gives a very thick looking finish and is also quite shiny. Both of these wouldn't be typical of factory production.
During judging I most often hear comments about coverage and thickness of the engine paint, rather than the shade.
I like the engine paint from Quanta.
Regards,
Alan
I used POR on the last two engines I did and I am not that happy with it. As Alan said it looks to thick and too shiny. It was very hard for me to apply without runs appearing. Maybe I just suck at painting but given the time and effort I put into it I thought it would come out better. Also it may cure to be really durable after several days but I chipped it several times within the first few days after painting.
I like it on the frame parts but will go a different route on my next engine.
You can thin the POR if you want it to look more like sprayed on paint. I put on two coats of it thinned some, using their thinner. It's claim to fame is how durable it is.
