Default power steering problem

Well my control valve was leaking so I ordered a rebuilt unit from Blairs (very quick shipping!) and have a problem I need help with.

I installed the valve and bled the system the way Jim Shea recommends. I then unhooked the ram from the frame bracket and started the car to balance the valve

At first the valve did not move, but Blairs suggested I balance it anyway so I turned the adjusting screw and nothing- either way I turned the screw the ram did not move. Also, the lines to the ram and the control valve got really hot in a short time frame (15 minutes).

I then shut the car off and did the Shea bleeding method for a few more minutes.

I started the car and then the ram fully extended so I followed the instruction in the shop manual and balanced the valve. During the entire time the front wheels were off the ground.

This morning when I went to move the car and I have zero power assist. Blairs suggested I check a valve on the back of the pump (I assume the pressure side of the pump) as it may have stuck. Before I do that I thought I would check in with you guys to see if I may have missed something during the install.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Dan

if it worked fine prior to changing , but just leaked, I would return the valve for one that works, the better rebuilders and venders pre-center them prior to shipping.
