They are a $itch. You may have to disconnect the upper ball joint.

the upper arm is in, but nothing is connected, steering is completely out, spindle not yet attached. I just cant get the bugger to go in there. Im also having a heck of a time getting the spring seated and lined up, that will be another thread!

If you then can "flip" the UCA up, with a little lube the piece should go in. Regarding lining up the spring, what I do is sit on the ground with the LCA supported by a floor jack. Cable the spring so if it comes out, it doesn't kill you and then with the spring started, start jacking the spring up. The spring won't be straight but sorta bowed out. As you start jacking up the spring, kick the spring in with you foot (feet). It'll eventially get in there straight so you can continue jacking it up. It may take a couple/few attempts. Make sure you wrap the spring so if it flies out, it won't go anywhere.

Put a little grease on the pointed end. Wrap a piece of heavy twine around the smaller shaft piece and feed both ends of the twine up through the hole. Hold the bumpstop against the hole and start pulling the string. You should see the end feed itself up through the hole.

Great tip with the twine! Wish I had read it sooner A little bearing grease, a lotta elbow grease, and a handful of swearwords got me there

TWINRAY, your method seems a little scary to me Im going to start a new thread on this though. Im glad to hear that the spring should be bowed, I was thinking there was no way there cant be a bow!

Next time you're putting the upper bump stops in.
With everything together engine in the car etc. Put car on its wheels. Now lube up the nub on the upper stop & start it in the hole. Now simply jack up the front end letting the front wheels droop. Springs forcing the upper Control arms downward will push the stop into place.
Thats how I always do it.
