Default Help with Wilwood Calipers

I bought a set of Wilwood Calipers from someone who had purchased them to use with a 67 vette, but he was using a set of wire wheels that did not have clearance for them.

I have a 79 and thought they would fit with my original wheels, but they also rub on my wheels. When the lugnuts are tight, you can not turn the wheel by hand. The original calipers fit fine. Is there any difference in Wilwood front and back and left and right. I can not find any marking to tell which is which. He had them marked the way he had them installed, but now I am wondering if he got them mixed up?

Thanks for any help.

Which model calipers are they? There definitely should be a difference between front and back. The piston diameter of the fronts should be larger.

The calipers have HZ-120-10525-RD stamped in what I think are the fronts and JZ-120-10525 on the rears.

I checked and the HZ-120-10525-Rd are the larger pistons.

Per Wilwood, the fronts should be 120-10525 and the rears are 120-10526.

After looking at the back ones again they are the 120-10526.

Anyone have an idea of why they are rubbing the wheels?

Just fitted Wilwood calipers to my 75.
Are you sure its the wheel thats rubbing.
Check caliper mounting bolts are not touching inside of rotor.
Just a thought, good luck with it,

I also bought a set of the Wilwood calipers while they were on sale.
Both of the front calipers rubbed, with the wheel on the right completely unable to turn.
I had to do a bit of grinding inside of the stock aluminum wheels to make everything fit.

Thanks for this info. If I want to make these work it sounds like I will have to work on the wheels.

Were you using the stock wheels?

I have the Wilwood D-8 calipers installed on my 77 - C3 and everything fits perfectly with the stock aluminum wheels, no rubbing. Not sure if they are the same calipers that you are using.

Before you start modifying your wheels, are you using the washers that came with the calipers in the rear? It could be the bolt hitting the rotor. See link for installation instructions.

I have not tried the rear yet, just the front. I checked the bolt and it is not coming through the caliper and hitting the rotor.

Strange that it fits some and not others.

My wheels are OEM wheels (or at least they appear to be), but the front & rear wheels don't look the same internally.
I'm guessing that a previous owner did some parts swapping.
I dont remember any car other than the Corvette getting the Vette wheels though, so I assume that they just came from different years.
My rear wheels have a very smooth transition from the back edge of the wheel into the center.
My front wheels on the other hand have a stepped internal diameter change about half way into the wheel.
I think that if all 4 of my wheels were the type that I have in the rear, there would have been no clearance problem.

Interesting on 2 different wheels, I think I read somewhere that there were 2 manufacturers for these type wheels, so that could be the difference. I think mine all have the smooth transition but I will have to check tonight.

12 years later, having the same fun.
1980 with stock wheels
Rears both fit fine and Driver front fit fine. Passenger front required 3/8" spacer AND grinding on the wheel.
