I did the search and can't find the thread. I was watching a guy that put a new shifter on his 1980 4 speed car. Hurst does not make this for the 80 so he used a 79. I did not see the outcome and can't find the thread. My shifter kinda sucks! was thinking about something new. Any after market choice other than stock?
I don't know why a 79 would be different from an 80 unless it's a tranny difference. I know in Pontiacs they started using something other than a Muncie in the 70's to late 70's. If so Hurst should sell kits for tranny's other than the Muncie; install kits that is.
As long as it's a Muncie I know you can do it. The stock linkages will not work with the Hurst; but if it's not a Muncie that might be why it's different.
I raced an 80 one time for a friend with a 4spd; and I do remember his stock shifter seeming different than my 69.
Do you know what transmission is in the car?
Muncie 4-speed production ended around 74 or 75 so you most likely have a T-10 (if it's aluminum) or perhaps a Saginaw if it's cast iron.
Not sure if they ever put Saginaw 4-speed in Vettes but that's the only difference I can think of?
A T-10 shifter for a 79 should fit a T-10 in an 80.
Perhaps if anyone has a 79 vs 80 AIM, they can see what the difference may be?
