there are six philips screws recessed in the door flaps/if you can get back there with a droplight push the doors up slightly and you will see them.there are also three philips screws that hold the vacum actuater on the end of the door flapper panels.with these screws removed the whole assembly wiil drop right out.then you can start cleanup/paint and new seal kit.this is also called astro ventilation as well. hope this helps.

when I did mine I had the entire interior out because I was restoring my vett. in your case I would probably remove one of the seats for easier access. you will also have to remove the rear window storage shelf. when working on corvettes everything is close and tight squeeze this will be no different. best bet is to get in the storage compartment on you back and see what screws you will need tools for. the entire damper will come out as a unit and can be further disassembled later if you wish. my foam seals turned into a tar like goo after 40 years.
I sandblasted all the metal parts and repainted and resealed. the damper came out as good as new.

Coupe/convertible, AC/non-AC are likely to be different. Do you have the assembly instruction manual (AIM)? The AIM shows the installation and is helpful when taking things apart.

Hi nh,
Mike's usually right in his advice about buying the AIM.
I realized after a moment that you had quoted the AIM sheet for the plenum door, so you have it.
What makes the drawing confusing is that only 1 of the 6 screws that H73 and 69t mention is shown!!!! It's item #15. All 6 of the J-nuts the screws fasten to are shown though (items #22 & 23) so you'll know where to look for the other screws.
On occasion the AIM lets us down!
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

I`m in the middle of restoring a 71 coupe, and I agree that it`s probably easier without a seat in there! I`d also add that if the seals on the flapper doors are shot, you`ll probably want to check the drain hoses on either end of the plenum too.
