Default 1968 Horn Button Restoration

Looking to restore my '68 horn button. It's in very good shape. Just needs to be freshened up. I've also noticed some spotting....(May be some cleaner someone sprayed on and got inside) on the inside. It's black in color and I'm guessing a flat black would be the choice

Anyone have any experience in taking one of these apart?

Thanks in advance

Bob

Have you looked at your horn button? The attaching studs on the back side are spun closed. You'll have to decide whether you want to open it up.

Been a while..didn't know you'd responded...

How does one go about taking the horn button apart. I see that it's spun closed...What's the trick?

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob,
I believe the paint on the horn ring and the rest of the column is semi-flat, not flat.
Regards,
Alan

This one didn't. I left well enough alone.

I've read a couple of accounts where the spins were ground off. The problem is not getting it apart; the problem is keeping it together after the spins are gone.

Good luck.
