Default Seat track recondition

I'm interested in hearing what you guys have done to recondition seat tracks.

I pulled mine off because they were sticking and I was restoring the interior anyway. They are not great, they have some rust and general junk in there.

PB Blaster improved sliding a good deal, but I'm still not happy.

Here's what I intend to do:

Pressure wash down into the track.
Dry them ASAP, then coat it with POR15.
Grease inside of track
Paint black

Questions
Could the POR 15 "gunk up" the ball bearing and prevent them from rolling?
Could pressure washing down into the track work water into a place that I'll never get out and just rust it from the inside out?

Do you have access to a bead blaster? Or some other media? And then with a air compressor and nozzle get all the media out... Then lube only the moving parts... I would think any "paint" in the moving parts would "gum" them up ..

for me, lots of liquid wrench, then work back and forth a lot. then re lube, then reassemble seats back in car.

i used a bead blaster w walnut on mine, then a thorough wash and soaking in parts cleaner, a good ole soap and water scrubbin, followed by lots of compressed air. eventually got everything free and squeaky clean. i just hit mine w a quick coat of spray paint instead of POR, which i had lose figuring any spray paint on the moving parts will wear off quickly, mebbe not w the POR. kinda a moot point anyways, as there was some light pitting on some of the bearings. a bit of lithium white grease and mine work great. any clean and lube outta leave them much better than they were after all these years.

i didnt try to disassemble them, and wouldnt recomend it. chances are ull never getem back together better than they are now, and theres no parts for them available that ive found

Default tracks

i just did mine as seats are out. removed tracks from seats , washed tracks in solvent washer , washed with soap and water , did some light hand sanding , blew out with air , spray painted , greased with hypo needle made for grease gun rolled greased again. wiped off excess. they roll like new! replaced bolts and springs from corvette central. i know alot of work for something you won't even see. but happy with results.

Hi,
I think it's a good idea to leave the track/slide itself bare and coat it with a product like Prelude 6 (Quanta Products).
The track's base and feet can be painted or plated.
I used white lithium grease on the slide and lock/release mechanism.
Regards,
Alan

POR 15 is an epoxy based heavy pigmented paint. Do not use it on any parts that move. If used in the slide it will get ground up and mix with what eer lube you use and turn into a sticky mess.
