Started to tear apart the rear end to replace bushings and hardware. When I pulled the rotor I discovered Bubba must not have thought the e-brake was necessary. Cable was there but everything else was gone.
Is there a kit available that includes shoes, springs, retainers, etc. to completely rebuild the e-brakes or are they a piece by piece rebuild?
And, can they be built without removing the spindle? (Bearings seem good, not gonna rebuild them at this time.)
Yes but not easy. Getting the springs keepers and return springs on difficult. There are many threads on this out there. There are some special tools available too.
Looks like the one captive pin is still on yours so your lucky there. (One pin is put on before the spindle is mounted and you'd have to take everything apart to replace it.)
From everything I've read, get the stainless hardware but don't get the stainless pads. Apparently they don't fit correctly or something. I had new GM pads here so I don't know first hand what the issue might be.
When you do the e-brake, take a med sized flat blade screwdrive and cut 2 slots in it with a hacksaw (or dremell...etc) one in the center of the "flat", and the other on the side at a 45deg angle toward the handle. Those slots will ease your pain in dealing with the limited space behind the axle flange and the spring ends. I used the stainless pads and hardware on mine, didn't have a problem they seemed to fit and work just fine.
