I need to find out where the #1 wire is suppose to be on the distributor cap. I think mine is off from where it should be. The car starts and runs good but I can not hook up the tach with out the cable breaking its to sharp of a bend. I would also like to see if anybody has a photo of the orinentation of the vacuum advance control also, mine sits in front of the sheilding bracket.
Apparently there is a service bulletin about the c3's not using the "normal" location of #1 to prevent the tach-drive from kinking.
Paul74 had a copy up somewhere but I can't find it.
I've got a 72 BB and found that the #1 had to end up as shown here to keep the tach cable at a decent curve and still allow my timing to come in.
Vac-Adv is just behind the pass bracket
That is probably it, my #1 is the first past the window so I need to back it up and reset the timing. To reset do I set at TDC (Valve cover off with valves closed?) and redrop distributor with rotor pointing to the NEW #1
Easiest way I've found is to pull the #1 sprak plug and have someone bump it over while I stick my finger in the hole. When it pops my finger out, look at the balancer timing marks, then turn it until the marks line up. Drop the distributor in with the rotor pointing at the alternator. (Left front). Hold the distributor with some down pressure and bump it over until it drops.
(I can do this by myself, I have a remote start button installed to make adjusting the valves a 1-man show)

Just e-mail me for a copy of my "How to Install Your Distributor" paper and it will show you the correct, and the correct alternate, distributor installation with photos and diagrams. It also covers how to do it.
