Default Top Rebuild Questions

On my top end rebuild I am doing I have a couple of decicions to make yet.

I am for sure going with performer intake, staying with the stock q-jet for now. Dynomax hot jet coated headers (1 5/8ths). Adding lots of chrome bolt ons.
I think I will be going with Sportsman II heads and either the xe262 or xe268 cam. Any thoughts on this combo, which cam you would go with, or overall comments. I was thinking angled plug heads, and 64 cc chambers...is that the right way to go with the headers etc???

Also need to get gaskets and seals, fasteners, timing set, rockers, and push rods. First question is can i use the stock pushrods and rockers? I dont have any idea what kind of shape they are in other than the engine runs ok now. Second, does it matter what kind of timing set I get? Third, again does it matter what type of gaskets/seals I get?

I know there are a lot of questions there, but when I get straightened out on this stuff I will be ready to go! This is a big project for me!

The stock rockers and pushrods should work with the World Products heads. Roller chains have worked great for a long time and make less noise than a gear drive. Which head gaskets you use depends on what pistons you have, what cc heads you get and what compression you are looking for. I would suggest the 64cc heads and about a .032 gasket.
If you have an automatic or a stick with 3.08 gears use the XE262. If you have a stick and low gears the XE268 will work.

Once again my two cents.
1. Look into AFR aluminum head. Bang for buck and they are lighter. 1300$
2. Look into roller rocker tips or full blown roller rockers 100-300$
3. Pushrods and original rockers can be a risk especially since new once are cheapo.
4. Your cam really depends on your heads, intake exhaust gear ration and type of tranny and desires driving style.
Most head manufactures have recommendations for rockers, pushrods and head gaskets.
GM uses Fel Pro as stock gasket sets and I have never gone wrong with them .Never.
If you upgrade your rockers you can also get a relative mild cam and get some easy bump up on lift numbers if you go with 1.6 rockers.

Here something I caught when I looked at the picture. You have a raised hood that is jsut like mine. I thing it is 3 inches higher than the rest of the plane. I fit an Edlebrock Performer RPM with a drop base and 2/1/2 in K&n side and lid air filter. You could probably get away with the 268 comfortable especially since its a stick. If you go with comp cams they will tell you the springs you need and they should also be able to tell you pushrod length based on the heads.
