Hi all,
Yeah, I'll be the first to admit that car restoration is new for me ...
My question is: Where can I find specs for any given bolt, nut or washer from the GM partnumbers in the assembly manual? I need to lookup stuff like diameter, threadpitch and length, in order to ensure I'm doing it right.
Is there by any chance a listing available somewhere on the net?
Re: Bolt, nut and washer specifications (max_ranzau)
I'm aware of a GM "fastener" book/catalog. Don't remember the correct name. It gives the specs for fasteners...length, pitch, etc. It does not give bolt head markings....WB, TR, etc. Many NCRS people seek this book, thinking it will give original head markings. It does not. Maybe somebody with a better memory will remember the correct name of this GM/Chevrolet fastener catalog. Chuck
Re: Bolt, nut and washer specifications (Chuck Gongloff)
Thanks Chuck,
Well, my car is not up to NCRS standards and probably never will be. If the
book you mention matches the GM part numbers with measurements, then hey - that's definately what I'm after.
Anybody out there who knows the book which Chuck mentions?
Chuck is referring to what GM calls its "Standard Parts Catalog." It includes fasteners, clips, etc. and is exactly as Chuck described. It will provide general information about a given fastener, but detail items like head marks are not included.
It sounds like the Standard Parts Catalog would provide the information that you're looking for Max, but I'll warn you up front that they are very difficult to come by and very expensive when you are lucky enough to find one. Keep in mind that you'll also have to find one that was issued around the time your car was assembled in order for most of the hardware to be listed. I have a "newer" Standard Parts Catalog (in comparison to my cars) and can tell you that there isn't a whole lot of carry over.
Re: Bolt, nut and washer specifications (Rowdy Rat)
Hey RR, thanx for the feedback -
Hmm, yeah - orginal manuals are hard to come by. I was lucky enough to lay hands on an original set of service and assembly manuals at a swapmeet in Long Beach last year.
Would you think it's possible that somebody is offering reprints of the Standard Parts Catalog, kinda like Ecklers and Zip offers reprints of the assy manual?
