I have a regular 350 with nothing special added. I had a misfire today and found that the last owner had routed the wires under the headers and had burned holes in the wires. After replacing the wires I tried to start the car and now instead of running extremely rough it wont even turn over. Any advice on what I should check to fix this problem?
I removed all of them because the last owner had put the cap on completely backwards, im suprised it ran at all. I used a diagram online and the original owners manual to put them on the way its suppose to be but I am afraid the rotor is completely in the wrong place.
Man I know I am asking lots of questions but I don't want to offend you with an answer you already may know. Do you have a timing light, (dial type?) The cap has a notch in it so it is supposed to be hard to put on backwards lol.
I would start from scratch and find TDC and time the engine. If you haven't timed one of these old Chevys in a while, this link has some great info to refresh you,
Its ok, its got a HEI setup and the cap was actually on 180 degrees off, I took it to a shop before and he was the only that actually caught it.. I will get a timing light and start all over. I appreciate the advice, I was mainly concerned with a unique timing setup, I figured it was the basic GM set up and I would have to start all over. I got the car about a month or so ago so now its all about fixing the issues. I really appreciate the advice
its been rigged.. the connecter is gone and its just the individual wires
try what i said a couple posts up about moving all wires one clockwise, it will take u 2 minutes including time to turn the key. let us know what happens

It really sounds like there could be an issue with the power connector. Can you snap a few shots of the distributor from each side of the car and post them?

I will in the morning. it worked fine up until yesterday.. then today it died.. idk.. ill let you guys see it
You should go get a local gearhead to have him look at it and get the distributor and wires right before you either 1: foul all the plugs or 2: burn the car down.

Put the new wires in exactly the same place as the old wires even though it's 'backward'. The engine will start immediately assuming it's not flooded and run just fine.
