Dumb question on setting timing
Dropping into the C3 forum here as I have a 72 LT-1 in my '61.
My timing marks look like this:
Is each mark 1 degree or 2?
Thanks,
Fred

If you measure the circumference of the dampener and divide by 360, you will get the distance between degrees. Then just measure the distance between the marks on the tab and compare.

Or you could count down from the "0" to the "8" and pretty well figure out how many numbers in between!

Tim, take a closer look at the pic, there is an A and an R with a 0 in between, no 8. I like using timing tape, myself:

It just makes things easy.

In 1969 they moved the timing mark on the harmonic dampers 10 degrees counter-clockwise. Prior, the TDC groove was exactly in line with the crank keyway, which also happened to be inline with the pulley bolt hole on one of the three struts going outward from the hub.
Ok, what do I have?...
In your picture, it appears that the nearest pulley bolt is about 10 degrees below the TDC groove which means that you have a later damper. On the other hand, your timing cover appears to have an earlier timing tag (not sure which), but one that should go with an early damper.
What to do?... Verify top dead center and put a small painted marker on your damper even with the "0". If you want further, apply a timing tape to the damper, or paint lines on the damper to do the same thing.
BTW, each mark is 2 degrees on the crank.

Wait till he finds the other timing mark on the damper. I bought an LT1 once because it wouldn't run. After three or four people test drove the car, I offered a low ball number which the owner accepted. Checked the timing and it was on the wrong mark. Ran great then.
