Hope someone here can give me advise. 1972 coupe with 350. Car ran. I marked the distributor and pulled it out. removed points and installed ignitor II. Got it back together and it tried to run but wouldnt. Ended up putting the points back in and putting it on TDC No. 1 and installing the distributor but it just turns over and will not start. have the rotor on the #1 tower.

I pulled plug in No 1 position and rotated motor to whre I could feel the piston coming up on compresion stroke. Then I got the marks lined up at TDC. Dropped the distributor in with vacuum advance facing the proper position. Had rotor on the No 1 tower on the cap. I know it has to be timing. The care strted no problem before I did anything.

I had the rotor at No 1 position. I am going to pull the distributor again and check the oil pump drive shaft. IT looks like the rotor is between No 1 and No 8 tower.

Start with the very basic stuff first. I'm sure you did but recheck once more. I built an engine a couple of years ago and on my first start to break in the cam.... nothing. I cranked on it for two days before I realized that I had put the plug wires on the dizzy in reverse order! I'm still waiting for the cam to wipe a lobe!

I have a complete paper with photos on distributor installation, if you need it. Simply e-mail me a request for a copy.

On the rotor cap the #1 tower points toward around the no. 4 piston. I have the rotor on the no. tower in the cap. The coil is putting out spartk but no spark at plugs.

If you are saying that you have no spark to the spark plug wires, you should check to make sure you don't have the wire to the points or condenser grounded on the distributor body. That will prevent spark from getting to the spark plug wires.

If you do have spark to the spark plug wires, then I would try to find top dead center again and restab the distributor. It seems like my rotor pointed to #6 when I installed it.
