ok...thats what i think too...i have read to rivit that door closed to reduce engine heat from comming in (i live in florida)
im wondering what happens in that case...do i also disconnect the hose??

I think that is what it is also. If you do unhook it, be sure to plug the hose with something like a golf tee or small screw or you will have a vacuum leak in the system.
I believe it closes the flap, inside the vent, to isolate the cabin from the core. It provides you with recirculated cabin air. Part of the A/C system.
