Default Noob Question

Hey,

I just recently bought a 1975 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. I am 18 years old. It's in fairly good condition. I had a pretty good question that I wouldn't be able to find out anywhere else but here. On the drivers side quarter panel there is a key slot. On the inside is an electrical component. Is this something the previous owner modded out? Or is it something stock that controls something? Thanks,

Tyler Kleven

Welcome to the Forum, it sounds like the factory alarm switch mounted on drivers side front fender. But I'm not sure what years they did that.

I do not know when it started, but I do know that in mid-1977 it was relocated from the driver's front quarter panel to the driver's door lock.

Turn the key and open your door or hood and you will hear the cheesiest alarm ever! But it's good enough for a little insurance discount! :yesnod: Welcome to The Forum.

Welcome to the forum Tyler. As mentioned above it's the stock factory alarm system. Mine didn't work, but the round key that works for the doors also works for the alarm key hole. The alarm comes standard on all vettes...I think beginning since 1963. Also, the alarm includes a starter cut-off device, so if someone tries to steal it then they won't be able to start the car.

Just a small hint here, but WE WANT PICS OF YOUR VETTE! "Think he got the hint?" Also let us know if you have any problems with it. I think someone here has already experienced what ever problem that is possible, and has already solved it and posted the fix on the forum. Don't be shy about using the search link and selecting archives to find some information, but more importantly don't be shy about posting anything, even if you think it's silly. Cause when it concerns a vette then nothing is silly...well, maybe some of us are silly ourselves! :yesnod: :jester
