Default Tach Stopped Working:

I assume its the cable, any advice on how best to diagnose and repair on a 72 coupe.

Thanks!

Check the gear inside the distributor. They will disintegrate if there is too much free play. When they go bad, they can actually "jam up" against the drive gear on the dist. shaft and shift the distributor position/timing. Experienced that. Read about the free play fix many many years ago in a magazine article. Corvette Fever?
Otherwise, as long as you have the cable disconnected at the distributor, manually spin the cable and have a helper look inside car to see if tach moves.
Good Luck.
