I am planning to install stainless steel brake and fuel lines on my 77 body off. I bought a set from Classic Tube, and they did not come close to fittina, returned those at a loss of $80 in shipping charges . I then bought another set that orginated at CSSB, and some lines fit better, but some worse. And I am not talking minor bending required to make fit, they are way off in some case.
Does anyone have any comments on this, and with any experience on being able to buy brake lines that really fit. Maybe I assume that you can buy lines that actually fit?? And I know that many of the suppliers get them from the same manufacturers.
Hi,
When I first replaced the fuel, vapor, and brake lines on my 71 I used ss.
I've since replaced all but the long fuel supply line with lines made from the original tinned bundy steel.
Although the fit wasn't really any different, the material is so much softer that it's MUCH to bend them slightly to help them fit, and also much easier to get a leak free connection.
Have you considered going back to tinned steel?
Regards,
Alan
I recently replaced my fuel/brake lines during a frame change-out. I used SS lines from Inline Tube. The brake lines fit very well, everywhere. The fuel lines required a bit of finesse-ing, but ended up fitting rather well. The only problem I encountered was they initially sent me two fuel return lines rather than one return line and one vapor line. After a few calls stressing that this was about to ram up a somewhat tight work schedule, they sent a vapor line. When I asked about returning the extra return line, they said "We're sorry about the screw up, don't worry about returning the line." I thought that was good business. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

I purchased mine from Vette Brakes. I did have one line that was off. I called Gary and sent him my original line and the stainless steel line. They re-bent it and it was a perfect match.
You can't believe the issues I have had with this. I guess for $400 I expect lines to be close, but the answer I get from each of the big vendors is the same "We sell thousands of these with no complaints, so your car must have been modified"", and so yes you can send them back for a refund, but oh, no, we will not cover the $50 shipping charges each way.
First, the car has NOT been modified. And second, I don't care how many you have sold. Fact is, in my business, aviation, fittings and lines DO fit without unbending lines, and rebending them to fit.
And you can forget about the stainless steel issue, I am going to with TBW since I then I will have a better chance at getting the lines to fit when I order the next set from Inline Tube. And despite all the stuff about the technique to getting the to seal properly, I am going with TBW.
I don't expect them to be perfect, but these tubes from CSSB and Classic Tube just are not close to working. And again, all I get is told that my car must be wrong. Sorry, ain't buying it. I am now going to go with my best guess that Inline Tube will get me lines that work. They claim they will. But time will tell.
After buying two sets of brake line kits, one from Classic Tube and the other made by CSSB, neither which fit, not even close, I bought a set from Inline Tube, and they fit with almost no adjustment. This proves the my frame has NOT been modified, as was given as an excuse for both the companies as to why their lines don't fit.
In fact, Inline Tubes kits are even more accurate as they come down the side rails as they bend into and out of the cupped area. And as come into the rear crossmember, they run completely into the corners, making 90 degree turns as my original brake lines did. The CSSB lines make a 45 across the lower gussets, and that is not how my original lines were run.
Unfortunately, I have lost over $150 in lost shipping charges because neither of these companies will stand behind their product with good customer service and refund the shipping charges. Parts didn't fit, not even close, and I lose $150. Safe to say, I won't be doing any future business there.
For all of your benefit, I recommend buying from Inline Tube.
