Just recently got my car back after having it painted, the passenger side
door is very difficult to open from the outside, but easy to open from the
inside. Is there some type of an adjustment for the outside door handle
somewhere? any help would be appreciated. Thanks
What I would do before tearing apart the door to get to the linkage (maybe later) is to hold the handle in and spray a good lube like CRC-56 into the linkage, pivot points etc that you can get to. Might solve the problem as it probably worked ok before painting?? Otherwise you need to pull the door panel and make sure the linkage is tight and well lubed.
If the painter was meticulous, the door handle was removed before painting and replaced. This almost guarantees that it is no longer adjusted correctly as it is a real PITA to do and the guy would have just slapped it back together. I spent the better part of a saturday recently getting my pass. side door handle working right and I cussed a lot. The job is simple but there is no room to work and I believe it might have been worthwhile to take the door completely off and turn it upside down.
Good Luck.
The interior door handle actuates the lock mechanism using a different rod than the exterior handle. Check out this thread and see if it is any help. The part in the circle is the adjustment for the exterior door handle. Be careful in that it also affects the lock. Be sure and test the door well before reinstalling the door panel and closing the door!
