I'm starting to collect parts to install a manual transmission in my '79. My research tells me there are two different frame brackets for the clutch Z-bar. One of them welds to the frame, the other bolts on. Some sites say the '79 requires the weld on bracket. Others say the '79 takes the bolt on bracket. Anyone know for sure which bracket is required for a '79?
I thought and I can check tomorrow.... that all the frames had the outer bracket for the Z bar. If not, that is what you will need to add to the frame. The inner (or engine side) stud screws in the block so nothing else is needed there.
None of them bolted to the frame.. they were all welded.. that I do know.
Only 4 speed cars had the bracket installed at the factory. My 1980 bracket was the bolt on version. I believe all previous years were the weld on version. Look at your frame at the bracket location, if 2 holes are present you can bolt it on, if not drill holes or weld it on. Thanks
There is a member here - V8Ranger - who makes a much stronger bolt on bracket then the one illustrated above. Worked great on my 78 conversion. I sent you a PM with his contact info.
I am 99% sure I have a spare pedal assembly if you need one.
