I am working a front & rear bumper conversion project taking a '77 to a '72 chrome bumper style.
Ensuring precision, can anyone help me out with providing some measurements from the rear window (both ends, and middle) straight back to the tip of the rear spoiler? I would also appreciate a measurement along the side quarter panel on the widest contour, from the door jamb back to the edge of the rear panel, on a straight horizontal plane.
Thanking you in advance to whomever responds with some help.
Sell the 77 and buy chrome. What you want to do is much more of a project than you might think.
You can search the archives; there have been several threads on this conversion (rubber to chrome), but I don't think anyone has ever successfully made the swap.
Hi ez,
I can't imagine anyone doing this with any success with out a COMPLETE front and rear clip; and also a 68-72 frame.
But I guess you have your reasons.
Quarter panel 52 3/4".
Rear deck-center 45 1/2".
Rear deck- side 44 5/8".
Regards,
Alan
There was a conversion kit made by custom image corvettes.Looked rather odd for my taste.I own a 76 and like the sloped rear and rubber nose.Rubber bumpers look great with those slotted wheels and white letter tires...Nice cruiser.....[IMG][/IMG]

Alan,
Thanks for the measurements...jus what I needed!!!!
Have been in touch with Josh, didn't care for his product...approach. I want more than just the look...I want some structure to the panels and mostly bumpers.
Everything and anything is possible...only limits one has are those he puts on himself.
Hi ez,
I agree that today ANYTHING has become possible but the cost of coming up with the bumpers and brackets, grills, lights, and fiberglass components, seems to outweigh the gain in appearance.
But, perhaps you have access to all that.
Regards,
Alan

Besides that, when you're done you'll have a car that has lost most, if not all of it's value.
...If you want to truly convert then I think a whole clip would be the route to go...
Ezrider: purchase the 77 AIM; purchase any chrome bumper AIM; compare the vary major differences in the two rear bumper installations. Frames are also different. http://www.71corvette.com/frames.html
