Does anyone know if a performer rpm will fit under a stock 76 hood. I know the edelbrock catalog says no but I remember reading here that some people say it fits.
I have one on my '81 with stock hood and stock air filter with Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminun heads....no problems.
I have a '76 with stock hood, I believe the '81 hood height is the same, and no way will the stock air cleaner fit, using the Performer RPM intake. Mine works by using a drop base open element air cleaner, which I hate. Working to change that.
BTW LannyL81 in rereading your post it is not clear to me weather you have a Performer RPM INTAKE or just RPM heads. If you do indeed have a RPM intake under the stock hood using the stock air cleaner, please post a picture and/or description on how you did it.
On our '79 I have a 2102 Performer with an Edelbrock 600CFM carb, but it needed a drop base for the air cleaner. I've got the matching cam and roller rockers too. Runs great with the Bow-Tie Overdrives transmission.
What about a Performer Air Gap?? anyone running one of these?
I have one on my '79. I have an L-88 hood as it will not fit with the stock hood on my car. I also have a Moroso 3" air cleaner and 1/2" of insulation under the Holley carb, so there's lots of room with this set up.
What about a Performer Air Gap?? anyone running one of these?
If you look on Edelbrocks site, it lists the height of each manifold under each intakes 'technical notes'.
According to Edelbrock, the difference between the Performer and Performer Air Gap is .27 inches. About a quarter of an inch. So if you have a bit over a quarter of an inch on your Performer, you can go Air Gap.
Incidently, the RPM and RPM Air Gap are the exact same height.
A performer RPM works fine on my '78 with a drop base air cleaner having a 1 1/8" drop and a 14 x 3" air filter, but just barely.
Of important note, I've measured drop bases from less than an inch (won't fit) to as much as 2" such as the SHP air cleaner used on '65-'67 small blocks. As far as carburetors go, I measured the height of the 4150 and 4160 Holleys and the Quadrajets - they're the same.
