Default Ingintion Capacitor

Hey All,

Knee deep in wiring my 69 with a new harness. I still have the old one as well, and have been using that as a guide when I come to a WTF moment. Question is... Looking at the wiring diagram there is a dark brown wire that is right in the gas pedal area. Off of this is a capacitor (which I pulled from the original harness). Does anyone know what that capacitor is for?

Also, my horn relay is possessed. Replaced with with a new one. Have to interject here... I hate pulling all these original parts made in the USA and replacing them with this foreign stuff . Just shows how we are going... Anyway, SOMETIMES when I turn my key to the "on" position the relay will sound like it is buzzing. Everything seems to be fine, but makes that buzzing sound. Other times it will not do it. Anyone else had this happen? Bad relay?

The capacitor is in either the brake light circuit or the kickdown switch (TH400). the purpose is to keep the radio from making a "pop" noise when one of the switches was activated.

69, the key warning buzzer was part of the horn relay. Is your key pretty worn? Sometimes the key won't make the contact work correctly.

It is a 'pop' (noise) filter for the radio. You don't really need it...especially if you have installed a reasonably modern radio head in the car.

My 69 does have a "buzzer" for the key alarm in the inside drivers side kick panel area. It looks like this...

The horn relay like I said only buzzes some of the time. Is I have the alarm on the inside is the horn relay still an additional alarm? This is the horn relay I have.

Unless you have the optional factory theft alarm, you should not have the alarm relay.

Do the instructions for the new harness tell you to use the old filter ? Times have changed and electronics change on an hourly basis. There might be something unrecognizable that takes care of the radio pop that could be the size of flea turd. Try it without the old filter.

Also the lifespan of an old cap like that is really not that long, ten years max and then you are playing on borrowed time, they tend to dry up, you could try and find a replacement, very easy at an electronics's store. You need the voltage (12V) and capacitance which you can find in the C3 wiring diagram and it is most um-dubiously electrolytic

Interesting. The key buzzer on my 69 is internal to the horn relay. No alarm system.
