They came with plastic bags which were then placed in the rear storage area and held down with adjustable straps which clipped to metal tie downs. Looked like a V when placed in the back area.
Hi sce,
The Owner's Manual has instructions and pictures for the installation/removal and storage of the roof panels, (never called t-tops), and rear window.
The roof panels are too wide to be stored next to each other so are shown, in the bags, stacked on top of each other on the floor of the rear compartment. The tops can only fit in the bags in one way and are shown placed so that the flaps on the bags is parallel to the seat bulkhead.
The Y shaped strap is then put in place. The front clip on the strap is adjustable so that when the strap is installed it can be pulled tight on the tops.
Regards,
Alan
The roof panels in their covers are stored differently in the older C3 like my 1970 relative to the newer C3 like my 1973. In the 1970, the rounded portion of the roof panel tucks in over the wheel well humps on each side. The straight or inside edge lays flat on the stowage compartment and is strapped down with separate straps in such a way that the center console door can open with the roof panels installed. The stowage compartment in the 1973 is two inches shorter and the roof panels must be placed "stacked" crosswise and secured using the "Y" strap--A much less convenient situation.
Hi,
Here's the picture of the stowed roof panels from the 1971 Owners Manual.
Note that for some reason the shoulder belt retractor is exposed?

Alan
