I heard a miss on the right side and was getting a recurring pop out of my right side pipe. I guessed it was a plug and yup it was.
So, these new plugs are about 3/8 of an inch longer than my old ones. They are the ones the autoparts store said are form my 427.
I guess they would just ignite closer to the piston but I am worried about them smacking the piston.
I would be scared to use those longer plugs, especially being the opinion of an auto parts guy. I've spent enough time around those guys to not trust them on something like this
GM BB aluminum heads use a 3/4 reach, 14mm thread, gasket seat spark plug. Heat range is pretty much up to the owner these days, but if memory serves it was an AC 44S originally. Im using Autolites so I can use the 5/8 hex to clear the headers.

]Yeah. I wouldn't be surprized if the piston smacks that plug that on the first rotation of the engine.
Don't use them.
Aside from the possible interference, the threads will be exposed and can lead to pre ignition and also can carbon up and destroy the threads, especially in aluminum heads upon removal.
There should be no threads exposed in the combustion chamber.

very interesting, thanks. shows, there seems to be a reason for everything when it comes to how things are designed, nothing is circumstantial
FWIW I've tried nearly every popular brand ..including E3's (the worst)...the plugs I have found that run the best (so far) are these... .054 gap. I am running AFR heads in the Vette and Edelbrock oval ports in my Camaro...
Thanks for all of the posts. I went with the AC Delcos' recomended on the conversion chart from the head manufacturer.
The Autolites with .054 look intersting though.
Very good point from noonie, the sharp (thin) exposed threads would likely cause detonation just like a metal bur would if it were hanging in the combustion chamber.
Backing carbon packed threads back out through the aluminum threads in the head would also be something I wouldn't want to subject my head to...
My car is so ready to paint I just can't pull the trigger. Factor color was white but I would rather go with a red or black. The white just doesn't bring out the C3 curves and lines. Sorry to jump topic.

Thaks again,

yes, I tend to agree, particularly about ANY sports car, darker colors as opposed to white. But I would still rather drive a white vette then a buick regal(my mom's car, lol) any day of the week. About as light as I like is silver, with black racing stripes, and/or black wheels. actually, I do have an exception, the newer vettes and camaro's , I really dig the yellow, with black wheels and satin black stripes. If my wife had agreed we probably would have bought a yellow camaro, but she didn't. So we ended up buying a 350z for a great price which needed a lot of cosmetic work(which I did), since that ended up really being "her car". That's why I had to get something, which is how I ended up here...
just realized about my above statement about "ANY" sports car, we painted the 350z white, but it was already white, but it is pearl white so that's kinda different then just white. It does look cool though.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
