Hello all....I have a '78 Corvette. When I shut my car off and remove the ignition key after about 2 hours the key buzzer noise starts ??????
It's really weird....Has anyone ever had this problem before? I have been having to hook and unhook the negative battery terminal and it's becoming a pain in the butt.....I know I could probably remove a fuse but I would rather just fix the problem if I can.....Thanks!
I just did a search about this problem and found some posts from people who have had a similar issue.....I will check them all out. In the meantime if anyone has had this problem please post here.....Thanks alot..

When the buzzer goes off on it's own what happens if you put the key back in and take it back out? When the buzzer is on without key in does messing with the ignition (with key out) interupt the noise at all?

If the buzzer is going off putting the key in the ignition and taking it back out again makes no difference. If I start the car it will continue to buzz. What I have to do then is loosen the negative battery terminal and the buzzing will stop and then tighten it back up....I can drive the car for as long as I want and the buzzing sound won't start, but once I drive the car and shut it off and let it sit, thats when the buzzing starts. The buzzing won't start until about 2-3 hours later....Thanks guys for the reply's so far..
Try removing the black buzzer box and see if what happens. It should start fine and with no buzz. The buzzer box connects to tabs off the fuse panel with a wire that connects to the harness. Remove it and start the car. The board may have a short. That circuit board is 35 years old and the solder pathway may have cracked or burnt.
Here is a scan of the buzzer diagnosis in Microsoft Word.doc. It might be helpful. It does concentrate on problems with the lock cylinder or the key buzzer switch itself. However, from your description it does not sound to me that the problem is in the steering column. http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/?p=912
It does bring to mind the following test. When the buzzer goes off on its own, disconnect the steering column turn signal switch "harmonica connector" from the vehicle wiring harness. If the buzzer keeps making noise, the problem has to be outside the steering column (i.e. most likely the horn relay.)
