I have trying to remove the differential/cross member on my '70, but I can only lower it about 1/2". Everything is unbolted except the pinion mount for safety.
Thanks!

I hate using a crowbar on any part of my vette. Just me
I found that using 2 jaw puller works like a charm
I found some old bolts the correct thread and drilled a hole in the center of the head to prevent the puller from slipping off the bolt. They were longer than the originals too so that I knew the crossmember would completely dislodge once it popped. It WILL POP when it breaks loose

Reason: Details
Just recently did this with the puller as well. Soaked the rubber in PB and Kroil for a good 4 days before trying though. Took some wrenching on the puller but eventually popped out.
Use the biggest jaw puller you can find, and that thing will pop right off. The reason you hear horror stories about how hard you have to pry on it with a crowbar is because that method only puts pressure on one side at a time hence the bushing binds up hard.
btw, i got my puller off ebay for around $15, well worth it. It was an older craftsman. 1 thing that seemed shady while using the puller is that where the 2 arms were pulling down on the crossmember, there was no teeth to make sure they dont slip off. The feet of the puller were only "hooked" on the crossmember for around 1/4". Very carefully though it worked without slipping.
