hi my name is bill. I have a 77 t top coup, its got a 350 in it now, I have a 454 that I want to install, I need help on what i'll have to change. any help is great thanks bill
you'll need and externally balanced flywheel, a 621 bellhouse and a clutch that fits both the trans (10 or 26 spline) and the flywheel. every thing else is the same. i've got a 621 bellhouse if you're interested.
hi i'm bill , thanks for your input , I am going to be using an automatic trans, I have a rebuilt th 350 hope that will work ok. thanks again I will keep a watch to pick up any info I can.
I am in the process of doing a swap right now on my 72. There is a ton of information on this forum for the swap. The post that oldalaskaman posted is a great start, also look in that thread for my post with several threads to look at. There are several things to look for and be aware of but remember these cars came from the factor with a BB through 1974. I have read several posts on here with members that have swapped a big block in to the later cars as well.
Hi Bill, I picked up a 77 with no motor in it last March. Had a auto trans in it. Converted it to a 454 also with a stick. My plans were to make the car as simple as possible, and being not correct anyway, I went with diffferent pulleys and brackets to save $$$ and removed a lot of things from under the hood too. For the most part it will bolt right up. Best of all the correct hood went back on, as I dont want to change the look of the car. Some of the things I used were a pulley-bracket set up from a chevelle with a long water pump, and a new radiator with electric fans. Same motor mounts were used and the wiring was changed for the alt on the right side. Also keep an eye on the bottom of the oilpan, as it has to clear the power steering. Depending on valve covers, ya may need a smaller power brake booster like mine too. Look at how ez and open it is too work on. Cleaned up the fire wall...less is more to me. Good luck.
if you're converting from a manual trans to an auto, be aware that the bolt holes in the trans crossmember that are used to fasten the mounting bracket for the manual will have to be enlarged to accept the 7/16" transmission mount for the auto.
