Default Motor out, while I'm at it.

I pulled the motor out to detail and paint the engine bay. Im thinking of replacing the water pump and fuel pump, what is a good reliable source for these parts, I would like to go chrome to dress it up a bit.

Also the PO said if I take the carb off the intake I will have to re-tap the holes, is this common for stock 427 intakes or is he crazy.

You're definitely doing things the right way, as the best way to clean up/re-paint the engine compartment. Wouldn't hurt to replace the water and fuel pumps, but go new, as bebuilts can be a joke. Gotten rebuilt water pumps over the years, and sometimes worse than the old old unit I removed. My cousin sells rebuilt auto parts, and when taking over an account, just replaces in stock units with his labels, and picks up the warranty. As for chasing threads with a tap when pulling a carb, I've never done it, but can't hurt. Fact is, way I pull engines with a carb lifting plate. Block everything off, with oiling the tap, and a shop vac handy.

The quality of the aftermarket parts these days is to say the least, suspect. Most of it is pure crap! I put an Edelbrock aluminum water pump on my small block a few years ago, and it is standing up beautifully. Highly recommended.
