First see if you have any juice to the dist, then check that the no.1 cyl is tdc and that the roter is pointed at no.1 lug on the distributor, once that is OK, you should have some kind of reaction in the spark department? You need to give a little more in details?

Forget what you heard here just see if you have power at the coil, take the coil to dist cable and rub it in the engine while turning it. If you don't have any power at the coil then see if you have power into the coil either on the + side and on the - side. This later one is the one that comes form the dist points or mag, just see if it is working right. If all of this is working then to problem is your coil and for this try to check it out with the old one.

thanks, im tending to think its a coil problem at this point. also i'm having a bitch of a time getting tdc, can u give me any tips? i cant seem to turn it manually
