Default Temperature Gauge

My orginal problem was that my temperature guage pegged to the right. I have replaced the temperature gauge as well as the temperature switch between cycliners 1 and 3 and my gauge still pegs to the right. If I unhook the wire from the temperature switch the guage pegs to the left at 0. Any ideas here? I'm at a lost. Can anyone tell me specifics about grounding the guage and making sure it is grounded, for an example how I would check that. Thank-you!!!

Default Re: Temperature Gauge (both79)

 Sounds like a bad sending unit, I'd guess... If you have an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the sending unit pin and an engine ground. If you read 0 ohm, then I think the unit is bad, and the behaviour of your gauge is coherent. If the sending unit is good, the resistance should decrease as the engine warms up.

Also, by hooking up a variable resistor between the sender wire and the ground, you can check if the gauge behaves as it should (higher resistance <--> lower temp).

Hope this helps some...
