Default Will C2 Hurst fit in a C3?

Does anyone know if a Hurst Competition Plus with dogleg reverse from a C2 will work with a 1969 C3 Muncie M21?

Not sure if this helps but I have a 67 Munice trans with a Hurst Competition in a 68. 1st and 3rd hit the front of the console and reverse hit the side. Had to bend the stick.

The differences I know about:

- 63-67 Muncies have a stud connecting the shift arms, C3's use a bolt. The shift arms are identical, except the C3 has a hole drilled in the middle of the slot to clear the bolt. I verified this as I have both style arms

- the reverse arm for '69 and later has an extension to connect to the steering lockout

-the Hurst catalog lists the 3/4 arm with the same part number

- the C2 Hurst has a dogleg reverse on the shifter, which is not present for the C3 version. I have read that a C3 Hurst will not work on a C2 as the reverse will not clear the crossmember.

What I am trying to determine is the opposite. I have narrowed the issue down to a) will the dogleg arm and reverse rod from a C2 be the right length with no clearance issues on a C3 and b) any issues with the 1/2 rod as the Hurst catalog lists different part numbers

pltmgr, regarding the shift stick hitting the console, do you have the Hurst stick or the Corvette lookalike?

Does your shifter body have all three arms looking similar or is the reverse longer than the other two (meaning it is intended for a C2)?

Didn't get a chance to crawl under the car until today. 1/2, 3/4 approx 15-17 inches, reverse approx. 7 inches. I must add that speaking to previous PO's the Hurst shifter may be 25 years old.

Pltmgr, thanks! Amazes me how willing those on this forum are to help by crawling under their cars!

I spoke with a Muncie expert, who says that the mounting and shift arm locations did not change, so any issues will be related to clearance to the frame or body. I guess the only way to find out is to put it on ...
