Default Factory Stereo Conversion..check it out.

I just got the radio tuned up in my car. I had an Alping shaft radio that went on the fritz. I bought an original Delco radio on ebay and had it converted to all solid state guts. This thing has 44 watts of power and is all digital froma tuning standpoint. I also have an 1/8" jack that I can run a cd/mp3 player through. Best part is that it looks and works just like the factory radio and anybody that walks by sees nothing but a factory radio. I have an ADS amp and a pair of Kenwood box speakers hooked up. Sounds really good and zero noise.

You can check out the guys site here :

Can you give me an estimate on how much a "conversion" costs! Thanks :flag

I checked out the web site and there is little info on what year cars this solution is best for... they only show pre 1970's as examples. What year car radio did you convert? I like the factory stock look but like you want better options in a radio such as CD and MP3.....thanks Laurie

Best I can suggest on both of those is to email the guy and ask him.

newliferadio@aol.com

Being that my car is a 1977 I was able to use any radio for a GM car from 1977 to like 1989. I got it for $9 on ebay. I do know that 1976 and prior radios for vettes are expensive as they are vette only.

I bought one of those personal CD players (walkman like things) with an FM transmitter. I can play my CDs through my original radio in both my '70 and my '87. Absolutely ZERO mods required. You just tune the radio to the channel you have the CD broadcasting to. As long as you can find a blank channel it works great. I have the Emerson one - got it to try out since it was only about $80. I'll probably get a better quality one one of these days with a better shock system or more damping or a bigger buffer for bumps because on the Wash DC streets sometimes this one skips. ~Juliet
