i feel stupid asking this, but i cant figure out how to get tdc, could someone please tell me, im going mad. :jester

LOL....this is one of those things easier to show in person than explain over the internet. Turn the crankshaft with a socket that will fit on the end until you hear the valves hissing. You will feel resistance, this is compression in the cylinder building up, when you feel it suddenly get easier to turn, that's when you just went beyond TDC. I assume you will be doing this with your valve covers off so that you can watch your valves move. This will help determine when you are exactly at TDC.

just to expand on what weasle said, pull the left side rocker cover and distributor cap off. rotate the engine as he discribed and when the rotor points roughly to the #1 cylinder and BOTH valves are seated (you may be able to twist the pushrods with your fingers at this point) you will be at TDC. if you need to be really exact for some reason, you can remove the #1 plug and use a soft probe like a pencil to measure the point when the piston has completely reached the top of it's stroke. just out of curiosity, whatcha doin?
