Default Another "whassis part?"--

Sorry for the crappy pic. It's that clamp-looking thing on the firewall in the center of the pic. Whassat?

If it's the part I think you're referring to, that's part of the wiper door system. If you pull your wiper door up, you'll see the "clamp" move inwards. This is supposed to depress a switch, which in turn grounds the wiper motor. It's to keep the wipers from starting before the door is fully up.

Steves right I had the same thing on my 70. Very complicated system thats prone to break in my opinion, no wonder it was discontinued.

Actually the wiper system is pretty simple in concept. Wiper switch trips a relay that ports vacuum to the door open side of the door acuator. when door is fully open it turns wipers on via a switch. Turning wipers off, parks wipers like any other car except, with righ hand arm on Vacuum switch that ports vacuum to the close side of door actuator. Wipers can't work until door is open and the door can't close until the wiper are parked. :confused: :D
