I think the early "stingray" was 2 words where as the later ones were one word i.e. sting ray, stingray.

Sting Ray was used until -67. I think that the original writer asked about the difference between Stingray texts in C3. For example in ZIP-catalog there is different emblems for -69 to -73 and -74 to -76. In fact, just yesterday I looked at ZIP-catalog and wondered the same thing...

Hmm, I didn't think there is any difference!?!?

The 63-67 were Sting Ray's...two words, and the 68 didn't even have a "Stingray" emblem. Actually, I think the listing you posted from Ecklers is for the rear bumper "Corvette" lettering, because in 74 the rear bumper became rubber instead of chrome, and in 77 the seperate "C O R V E T T E" letters became all one "CORVETTE" piece.

Catalog I have, from another vendor, shows a 69-73 emblem with 4 attaching studs. They list a 74-76 emblem with 3 attaching studs and a self adhesive backing.

Yup,
I don't know for sure what the difference is, but the two are probably incompatible because of the way they're attached. Once the "V" fell off the back of my car. I got a used one to replace it and it happened to be of a slightly newer vintage ('73?) and the stud pattern was different.

The pictures at ZIP show a slightly different color. Could just be the pics but the later ones looks like it has a darker border or outline to it.

Your paying too much for those emblems. I got new "Stingray" emblems from my local Chevy dealer for under 14.00 each.

I just looked at Dr Rebuild's site and it shows a GM and a Repo emblem. States that the GM emblem has "black paint on sides" while the repo emblem has "black paint on lower surfaces only". It lists the GM emblem for 69-76 and cost $18.50. The repo is broken down into 69-73 and 74-76 with a cost for both groups of $32.45. Hummmmmmm

Those two samples are great but why not opt for the third alternative:

There is a difference, # of studs (3 vs 4) and adhsive backing for the later years.
