I'm installing Autometer Gauges in my new gauge bezel....looks kewl!! However, I'm confused about how to hook the voltage gauge up. The old harness has a black wire and a white/black wire. Which wire is which?? The new volt gauge is a two wire hookup?? Any thoughts as to the routing of these two wires??
I think you are replacing an ammeter with a voltmeter. Ammeter wiring will not work for voltmeter since ammeter is a series connection and voltmeter is a parallel connection.
You need to decide where you want to read volts (alternator, battery, starter solenoid, etc.). Then add a wire to that point. The other lug on the back of the voltmeter will be a ground. You may have a third wire for meter light.
Connect thetwo ampmeter wires together, otherwise no alternator chargine....and then put them to the positive terminal of the voltmeter.....and negative to ground, same as lightbulbs....
mrvette has it right. A convenient ground strap is located where the bezel and center console bolt down to the frame...you will see that about 10 wires are already using that area.
