Started working on my 70 project car this weekend. Have had the car since Aug but I have been gathering parts & researching mostly. Since the car was pretty much disassembled when I bought it I figured on pulling the body off & starting from scratch. Any way I got all the body bolts out & was removing the front crossmember. As the crossmember loosened up the nose started to sag. Rather than take a chance on the fiberglas cracking I bolted the crossmember back up.
How much should the nose drop? I remember reading some posts that the nose will drop but don't remember how much. The radiator to header bar support rod is missing - ordered a new one this morning - not sure how much that will help though. Trying to remove & reinstall the body with minimal damage.
Jim when I took the body off the frame on my car the nose started to droop. The only thing supporting it is where it is bonded by the doors. If you don't support it will crack.I used a 4x4 and some jack stands to support it.You'll be surprised on how flimsy the car is.When I cut the rear frame out of mine the body could be bounced around.I supported that with 2x4's.I suggest you take the radiator support out,it will lighten it up a little.I see the fun has begun. How did you lift the body up?Feel free to e mail me if you have any questions.Steve
