Power Steering Pulley Problems...
I am converting to power steering and I just mounted the pump on the engine this afternoon. Good thing the engine is on the stand still. The problem is that the PS pulley doesn`t even come close to the crank pulley lining up. Whats up with this. One thing is, I did buy a March pulley system, but not the serpentine. The pulley system is for a power steering setup according to the box and what I ordered. I reused the original PS pulley. Are there different pulleys for the PS pump. I need one that is offset toward the pump or do I need a crank pulley with 3 grooves.
Eddie,
i have the March pulley system as well. it has a 3 groove cranks pulley as the ac also goes to it. the first belt i put on flew off very fast. i then got another new belt and tightened it a little tighter. it works. i too thought it did not look like it would line up but it has been on there about 4000 miles now.
Good luck,
mike

Yes, there are different pulleys. There are so many different configurations that I had a hard time getting the right ones. I have all March pulleys except for the PS which I got from Street & Performance. My pulley set from March is for 71-82 Corvettes and from THIS picture my PS belt is on the outer groove of the 3 groove crank pulley. Not sure how a 70 should be though.

Re: Power Steering Pulley Problems... (Eddie 96)
So guess I need to buy a pulley to go on the outside of the crank pulley. I don`t have air so that shouldn`t be the problem. I am hoping to get this thing on the road soon.
IF the alingement is still off after you have the pulleys you want, pulley spacers are available 1/16 & 1/8 " Thickness & Can be doubled up....look in P.A.W. SUMMIT or JEGS catalog .........I put a p/s conversion kit on my 66 big/block & the alingement was off a little & a 1/8" spacer trued things up correctly, also , in my case the correct p/s belt was to thin & riding to low / bottoming out in the crank pulley...went to NAPPA got a 3/8" thick belt now OK................Just a few tips :smash: from the old DOG.... :seeya amendum, a different alt pulley is necessary in big/blocks with p/s , dont know about small blocks,,,,
