Default Headlight issues....different than most

Hey i'm pulling my hair out here on my 78. I started by just replacing things cause they were pretty cruddy looking so i have new actuators and relays for both sides and a new filter and check valve. Now the thing is they work, but only go up about 3/4 on their own and only close to about 1/4 on their own. I disconnected the linkage to the bucket to clean up some of it while i had the actuators out and there is quite a bit of resistance in the pivot bushings, should the lights kind of flop around without resistance if there is no likage hooked up or are they supposed to be a bit tight?

Not sure if the above link will help you out, but might shed a little light on how they are meant to work.

Hi n2n,
On my 71's lights there isn't really any resistance at all.
With the actuator still connected to the headlight mechanism, but both hoses off the actuator, the lights move open and closed very easily.
No, they don't 'flop' around, but they're easy to move.
Have you tried cycling the lights by hand through their full motion (with hoses removed) to see if you can feel any resistance.
Regards,
Alan

Adjust the clevis on the actuator rod. You may also have to adjust the stops.

The AIM has installation notes on how to set the headlight buckets. UPC 12C Sheets 2 and 3.

thanks guys! i think the problem is the resistance as cycling mine by hand is really hard and takes a good bit of effort, i tried spraying some pb in the pivots which barely did anything so unfortunately i think i will need to replace the pivot busings .

i thought about the adjustment but if i adjust it say to open further then i won't get it to close as far too

and i also installed new actuators and relays because we had em laying around at the shop

thanks again!
