Just bought Jacobs Ignition and Coil and I'm installing them on my 69 coupe. I'm using a Mallory Unilite distributor. Had poor results with the MSD, which I'm now replacing. Anyone with good or bad experiences with the Jacobs?
Re: Experiences with Jacobs Ignition? (Michaeljh3)
i put a jacob's pro street ignition on my car about 3 years ago. i love it. they advertise that your going to get 'x' amount of power and gas mileage but i can't prove it. i'm not doubting it but i didn't dyno it before or after and have done no gas mileage runs so i won't say yes or no. one thing i did notice is that it burns clean, very clean. used to be on my tired engine i would do an oil change and in 500 miles it was just black and nasty. after i installed the ignition, i more than doubled that, more like tripled it.
i run .075" on my gap and have no problems with misfires. thing is so hot i think it would burn b-b-q sauce.
earlier this year, my coil burnt up. somehow managed to get an internal short. :( called jacob's and they said give summit a call (where i bought the system). summit sent me a new coil and paid the shipping. :) jacob's has lifetime warranty on coils and wires
Re: Experiences with Jacobs Ignition? (clutchdust)
Sorry about the lame question but what do these boxes do? Are they a replacement for a distributer or do they tie in to the existing ignition system somehow. I tried searching around on summit and jeg's websites and they all assume if you're looking for it you know what it is.
Re: Experiences with Jacobs Ignition? (Cookwithvette)
I have one of their nitrous masterminds in my car right now and it seems to be a pretty nice piece....
cookwithvette....as far as the "boxes" they are basically "Multiple Spark Discharge" Units.....hence the company MSD since they came out with one of the first. A ordinary ignition will send a spark via the wires to the spark plugs and it will spark once. With a "box" it will spark once and whole lot of times more but gradually smaller spark.
I would suggest checking out http://www.msd.com or another manufacturers web site and youll find an in depth explanation.
