Default Newbie Qs

Upon purchasing my `75 in November, the first thing I did was to have a shop replace the fuel lines and brake lines, as both leaked something fierce, and did not want a flammable beast residing in the garage. Got her back and as luck would have it, she wouldn't start a week or so later, put her in the garage, Christmas and other things kicked in. AIM and CSM are being ordered this week.

So, here I am on a Sunday, finally under her in the garage, and have a couple of questions

1) Not even a solenoid click. Jumped the clutch safety switch, and still no click when turning the key. Diagonsed starter circuit. Proper voltage at "S" terminal when key switch turned to start. So, a new solenoid, etc. to be installed (and yes, I am considering a high-torque mini starter). While down there, I noticed evidence of Bubba in that one of the two fuseable links have been replaced with ordinary wire. So, while I am in there I want to replace the wire back to a proper fuseable link. THE QUESTION -- What gauge should this link be?

2) Bubba also removed the A.I.R. system, which wouldn't be so bad, if the remaining bits and hoses had been dealt with properly. For the most part, she runs well (although she idles poorly until warm - like choke trouble), but I see a few recipies for trouble -- For example, the diverter and EFE TVS switch, and EFE actuator are gone, which raises another two question-- The exaust manifold heat riser shaft can be rotated freely, and until I put a new exhaust on the car, I want to make sure the butterfly cannot get stuck closed. As one looks at the riser (from the outside), should the shaft be rotated clockwise or counterclockwise so as to safety-wire it open?

Thanks in advance.

Found the answer on the fuesable link -- 14 gauge.

Any thoughts on the manifold heat riser?

Yeah get rid of it and run an open element air cleaner.
