Wanted to clarify something about your LT1/4L60E install (I'm also doing this to a '76 Vette)...
Do you know if there is any difference in the TH350 vs. the TH400 cross-member? Mine had a TH400 in it and would liike to do as you did and just move it back and use the '82's 700R4 mounting pad. I've been in contact w/ S&P about their Tailhouse adaptor (allows the use of the mechanical speedo) and am being told that in addition to this adaptor ($375  ), I'll ALSO need to look for a crossmember from a car that had a 700R4 in it...??? Now, this is getting pricey!
Seems like your way is much simpler (and cheaper! :yesnod: ) Am I missing anything here? (I'm not worried about the e-brake...FL has no hills!) and also know that some driveshaft modification will be necessary.
DR'76- My cross member is a TH350. I believe it's used with a TH400 as well. The two holes behind the TH350 mounting holes are for the Th400. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Donovan, you will need to drill two new holes for the TH700 mounting pad and you might need to open up the access hole a little. Sorry I don't remember the exact placement of the holes. I’ll try to find my notes. I found the placement of the holes by comparing a '82 vette cross member to my '76. Go to a local Corvette junk jard and see if you can compare your cross member to an '82. The TH700 tail shaft mount is taller than the TH350 or TH400 and places the 700 at the correct angle. This is the cheaper way to go. You will save a bounce of cash flow. You will need to cut 3-11/16" off your driveline. Please measure it yourself. Check my web page for instruction how to measure the amount to cut off on the tranny page. If your using a Camaro 4L60E tranny you will need to remove the tail shaft and replace it with an '82 Vette tail shaft, because Camaro's don't have mounting pads on its tail shaft. Good Luck! http://www.vetteworksonline.com
