Default '68 Engine question

My 68 is having an oil pressure problem, when it's warmed up, the oil pressure at idle drops to almost zero. Having done a lot of reading on the forums I think it can be the main bearing that went bad. The engine runs well otherwise. If I'm going to be replacing the main bearing anyways, should I just do a complete engine rebuild while I have it apart? Or is that unnecessary and doing more work than I should? I've never done a main bearing before so I'm not sure how much work I'm in for in the first place. Thanks for any info you can give me

Shouldnt you use an external oil pressure gauge first to make sure the in car gauge is reading correctly? How many miles on the engine?

The odometer shows approximately 75,000 and from what the PO told me, he thinks it has spun once already.

check for and maybe swap a bad gauge .not to hard to remove a engine from a vette.mic and plastic gauge the bearings ,rod and mains.do you have a torque wrench ?if the engine comes out get a new oil pump and timing chain.you will have to remove the rods and crank to replace main bearing.use some GM assembly lube and a 1 piece oil pan gasket.you can leave the balancer on the crank.
