Default No Hood Clearance

Hello All...new user here. I have a 71 that i just added Hooker Headers to and was installing an Edelbrock Performer intake with my rebuilt q-jet. I did my research on here first and everyone was saying there should be no clearance issues with the performer and q-jet. But i cant even close the hood WITHOUT an air cleaner. the airhorn even hits the hood. I mean these things can only go on one way so i dont know what i could have done wrong but something is up. I had the engine rebuilt years ago...could the motor mounts be different somehow? I am at a loss. Any and all help would be much appreciated.

There are a couple of different "performer" intakes, which one do you have?

(I'm pretty sure at least the RPM ones are very tall compared to stock)

Good point, not much of anything fits the BB, except maybe those ancient Torker II's

There ARE two different motor mounts for small blocks. A tall and a short. I have no idea if its possible to install the tall mounts in a Corvette.

DO NOT drop your hood to shut it anymore.....I 'clayed' my clearance after a carb spacer install. (modeling clay between air cleaner and hood, squished down to show exactly how much room you actually have) Had just under 1/4 space. One day I was having fits with the car and just dropped the hood down.......yep, you guessed it. I spider webbed my hood. Be careful with your new reduced clearance.

As far as adjusting your stock q-jet....no, adjustments are not necessary to get it to run, but they will optimize performance. You may run a little lean though.
