Rods: Re-size em or buy new set?
Or can I get just one from a parts dealer? I pulled the pistions out of my faulty 383 and found that the #6 rod (not 5 as I have previously posted) is out of round. I have never delt with this before and want some input from the those who have.
Thanks
BTW They are eagle SIR rods so if you got one to spare, let me know.

BTW
Anyone fimiliar with a company called CAT, Cal Automotive Transportation I think. They have some inexpensive cranks and rods in the front of newer summit catalogs. $189 for 500 horse rods and stroker cranks. Little under $500 for forged cranks.

Thanks for the tip!
Anyone care to give input on rod resizing? Or if I can get just one rod to replace the bad one?
Thanks

Any competent machine shop can refurbish the rods. Done all the time
look in the yellow pages for a engine builder. Lot specialize in Ford, Mopar, Chevy, Pontiac, etc. Ask what is their specialty.

I know it can be done but am not sure about the quality issues. Cost is also a factor, if it is even close to a new set of rods, why bother? I'll check with the place that turned my crank last time. Thanks for the input.

Like GDaina said "competent". If you are unsure about the machinists workmanship or don't know someone who has used their services I would pass. You might want to check with some of the local Hot Rod clubs to see where they got their work done. If all else fails you can go to one of the big suppliers like PAW, Summit, or Jegs and look at the price difference. Just remember one thing, the rod in your engine now has survived a long time and with resizing will be as good as new. A new rod may have hidden defects that won't show up until you have your foot in it. Just a few thoughts.

That rod hasn't been around that long, probably a total of 200 to 300 miles in the engine. I still do not know what caused the original bearing failure, I think it may have a clearencing issue since I heard a distinct tap when I start it up for the first time. The short block was built by speed-o-motive if that tells you anything. They have no customer service since once it leaves their shop it's your fault if anything goes wrong. :mad I know a couple gear heads and will check with them for a suggested shop. Just wanted to get as much input before I decide. Now if I had only done that BEFORE I ordered the engine. Live and learn.
