Default Overdrive Alternator Pulley

On my AC equipped 71, I had long ago installed a March underdrive pulley kit which included a new undersized crankshaft pulley and a new 2 11/16th inch alternator pulley. I did this so as to not throw my AC belt at high RPM (in excess of 6,500).

This served the purpose perfectly except at idle the alternator shows a discharge,,,even though engine idles at 1,100 rpm.

At one time March offered an overdrive V belt pulley(this would be more like a 2.25 inch pulley), but in 3 calls now to their technical support, I gotten no help on ordering one(always end up on hold and a dial tone after a couple of minutes as they do their research) and cannot find one listed in their online catalog.

I've not been able to find one that has the rather nice look that matches the March powdered coated aluminum pulley in a somewhat smaller size than 2 and 11/16ths. The smaller pulley of course turning the alternator at a higher rpm as is what I need.

Any ideas from anyone?

The fact that your alternator doesn't charge when you are idling is of no consequence....unless you are almost always sitting at an idle. Having a 'trouble' light show up on your dash or seeing your ammeter go negative is just NOT an issue, since you know what is causing it.

Just ignore it.
